Final Message from Bassir Qadiri OAM

As we approach the 2024 Casey Council Elections, I want to take a moment to share my vision for Casuarina Ward and why I believe I am the right candidate to represent our community.

I am Bassir Qadiri—your neighbour, long-time community leader, and a dedicated volunteer. With over 15 years of experience, I have supported the most disadvantaged and vulnerable members of our community. From homelessness, disability, and victims of family violence to youth mental health and newly arrived refugees, I have worked tirelessly to uplift, support, and empower them. I founded and still run the well-known Bakhtar Community Organisation, which helps thousands of people facing difficult times. It is with this passion and knowledge that I am running as a candidate for Casuarina Ward.

My Vision for Casuarina
I envision a Casuarina that is safe, inclusive, and full of opportunity. We must balance development while preserving the unique character and values that define our community. By strengthening connections within our community, we can build a brighter and more prosperous future for all residents.

Community Safety
Community safety is my top priority. To address rising concerns, I will advocate for stronger partnerships with Victoria Police, install more CCTV in crime hotspots, and implement strategic preventative measures. Together, we can create a safer, more secure Casuarina for everyone.

Supporting Volunteers and Youth
Our volunteers and young people are the backbone of our community. I will ensure that they receive the recognition, resources, and support they deserve. By investing in youth programs and promoting opportunities for growth, we can empower the next generation of leaders.

Economic Growth and Employment
Creating local jobs and supporting businesses is essential for a thriving community. I will work to foster a business-friendly environment, cut red tape, and support local enterprises. By encouraging local employment opportunities, we can build a stronger local economy that benefits us all.

Recognitions and Awards
My extensive volunteer work has been recognised with numerous awards, including the Casey Citizen of the Year Award in 2020, the State Inclusive Volunteering Award in 2022, and the Order of Australia Medal in 2024. I am proud of what we’ve achieved together and look forward to continuing this work on a larger scale.

Education Background
My educational background has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to serve the community better, allowing me to approach challenges with informed and practical solutions.

Learn from the Past
Our community has faced challenges, including the dismissal of councillors due to misconduct. Let’s use this as a lesson and guide for the choices we make in this election. I encourage you to research candidates carefully and vote for someone who truly represents your values.
